In October 2006, I was part of a National Geographic film crew embedded with the Green Berets in Afghanistan. Three days into the shoot, we hit an IED (improvised explosive device) that killed two soldiers and wounded five others. I suffered 2nd degree burns and took shrapnel to the arms and face. I was treated in Afghanistan, Germany, and finally at the Johns Hopkins Burn Center in Baltimore. After being discharged from Hopkins, a close friend of mine insisted I see her esthetician, Jenny Luu.
The day we went to see Jenny was an amazing experience. She took time to hear my story, inspect my injuries and came up with a daily skincare routine for me. Jenny GAVE me the products and my burns healed quickly. When people hear my story, their first reaction is usually, “Really? It doesn’t look like anything happened.” Thanks Jenny for listening and for your generosity.
